What if the light at the end of the tunnel is you?

The other morning I woke up early to go for a walk. It was so early that it was still dark outside. As I set off on my walk I started thinking, "Gee it's still dark. I would have been better off staying in bed where it's warm and comfortable". But the adventurer in me said "No way! You've made this commitment to yourself, let's get going". So off I went on my morning stroll, very conscious of the fact that it was pitch black and that I seemed to be the only crazy person up and about at early o'clock.

As I  got into my groove and found my pace, my mind began to wander. I got to thinking about successful people and what makes them different. We've all heard that successful people are willing to do what others aren't. Then I got to thinking, well I am the only one up at this hour of the day, does that make me successful? And I decided that perhaps it did mean that I was successful in that moment doing that thing.

I then realised that there were a few things going on all at once in my head. For some reason success is this big, elusive deal that's made out to be somewhere in the distance, almost an unachievable thing (or perhaps that's my crazy interpretation of it). What if it's okay to have small successes and celebrate the small achievements as they happen? And that the more small successes you have add up to even more and eventually even bigger successes? I can tell you I was pretty proud of myself out there in the dark pounding the pavement!

The other learning I took away from that was that I had made a decision based on an outcome I am working towards with my health and fitness and not on how I felt!! I have been walking around this world for 30+ years making decisions on how I feel about things and not based on the end game. When I discovered this nugget of gold recently, a lightbulb went off in my head. Things finally made sense! If I could get clear on the outcome I am working towards, I can then make my decisions based on the outcome, not on my feelings about doing what needs to be done to get there.

That then brings me to the title of the post, what if the light you are looking for at the end of the tunnel is you? What if the answers you are looking for or the success you are chasing already exists within you and you've not recognised it yet? What if you are the light and the compass of your success and your achievement? Stop looking outside of you for the answers. What you need you already have within you. Believe in yourself more than you already do. Pat yourself on the back when you do a great job. Celebrate the small things. Be adventurous. Step outside your comfort zone. Shine more of your own light on you. Ignite your spark. It's your time to shine!
